New Minimum Wage Effective July 1
 

On July 1, 2020, the minimum wage in the City of Alameda increases to $15/hour. The new minimum wage applies to all businesses in Alameda, regardless of the number of employees. This is a scheduled adjustment included in the Minimum Wage Ordinance that was passed by the Alameda City Council back in 2018.

Under the City’s Minimum Wage Ordinance, employers must comply with the following requirements:

  • Post at their workplace the Official Minimum Wage Notice, which can be downloaded from the City's website here

  • Maintain payroll records for a minimum of four years

  • May not increase the cost of benefits, reduce or eliminate current benefits

  • Tips or gratuities may not be counted towards the minimum wage

  • May not retaliate against employees for exercising their rights under the ordinance.
